The lacrosse team added another win to their record this week as they beat Stonehill College 7-3. There was a slow start to the game and it was close through the first half. “I thought the team looked a little sloppy on the field,” said Coach Bamann.
However, with Matt Stango (Jupiter, FL) scoring four of the Wolverines seven goals, Stonehill could not hold on. Andrew Suh (Colchester, CT) added a goal and an assist and had 6 ground balls for the day. Both Edward Suh (Colchester, CT) and Alec Westerhoff (LeGrange Park, IL) tallied goals as well. Chris Longo (Somers, NY) kept BA in the game with seven saves in net.
BA dominated the game on the field as well as in the books. Chris Barney (Cheshire, CT) kept BA in the game winning 8 of 13 face-offs and six ground balls. BA outshot the Skyhawks by 21 shots (35-14) and scooped 22 more ground balls than Stonehill (49-27). BA also had 17 successful clears of the 20 they attempted.
While there was a slow start, Coach Bamann was happy with the day’s performance. “The offense had a lot of good opportunities but we weren’t able to capitalize on them. Stonehill’s goalie also had a number of great saves. Defensively we played great and kept them out. This game is a great transition to the rest of the season,” said Bamann.
The team is working hard in practice this week for their game at Navy Prep (Newport, RI) on Saturday October 2nd at 1:00 P.M.

Player Profile: Colin Nesdale
HOMETOWN: Cheshire, CT
IN HIGH SCHOOL: I was a lacrosse player, a hockey player for a few years, and I was talkative and energetic.
HEARD ABOUT BA: My coach Erik Bailey went here and Matt Cyr ’08 went to my high school and both told me about it.
GOALS AT BA: To improve my grades and my athletics

Lacrosse falls to Navy
The wolverine lacrosse team put up a good fight against the Naval Academy Prep team but lost 13-6. The wolverines played a solid game for the first three quarters with even play. However, concentration was broken in the fourth and the level of play decreased and the Naval Academy took advantage and scored 7 of their 13 goals.
After the first quarter, Navy was up 2-0. Play was very even and no one team clearly dominated. Navy put up a strong attack, but BA was able to hold them to two goals. BA went into the second quarter looking to even out the score. After another goal by Navy, Sean Williamson (Falmouth, MA) scored with an assist from Matt Stango (Jupiter, FL) with 1:48 left in the first half. While the Wolverines ended the first half down 3-1, they were looking to come back even stronger in the second half.
Ian Farley (Camillus, NY) started off the half with a goal four minutes in with an assit from Storm Stockstill (Jupiter, FL). Unfortunately, it wasn't enough at that point to put BA in the lead. While they still continued with strong play and solid defense, Navy came back and scored four goals, putting them ahead 7-2 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, BA came out strong once again. With 12:58 left in the game Nate Nichols (Penn Yan, NY) scored BA's third goal of the game. However, play seemed to dissolve for BA as Navy answered back with three goals in the next 3 minutes. Alec Westerhoff (LaGrange Park, IL) scored with eight minutes to go. Navy scored once more, but Westerhoff assisted Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, MA) as he added to the Wolverine's goals. While Navy scored two more goals in the next minute, bringing their final tally to 13, BA scored again with 18.4 seconds left when Farley finished a pass from Edward Suh (Colcester, CT)to bring the final score to 13-6.
Farley led the scoring with two goals while Westerhoff had both a goal and an assist. Stockstill also added an assit for BA. Colin Nesdale (Cheshire, CT) kept the defense in the game with 15 saves for the day. Bridgton beat Navy in ground balls 33-31 and won 12 of the 22 faceoffs. Navy only managed to out shoot BA 34 to 28.
When asked about the game, Coach Bamann was positive about the days performance. "We played well, we just didn't take care of the ball on offense and the defense gave it back to Navy too many times. They were able to capitalize and score on our turnovers. Nesdale did a great job in goal, keeping us in the game. Overall it was just too little too late, but I am happy with the game and where we will go from here," says Bamann.
With a change in scheduling the Wolverine's next match up will be on the road as they travel to Stonehill College to play on Sunday September 26th at 2:00 P.M. Check back for directions to the game.

Student Profile: Ryan Gilligan
HOMETOWN: Beverly, Massachusetts
IN HIGH SCHOOL: I played two years of football, four years of hockey (2 year captain), and four years of lacrosse (1 year captain)
HEARD ABOUT BA: From past BA students that came from Beverly. I have always known about it.
GOALS AT BA: Improve myself athletically and academically.
BA IS DIFFERENT FROM HIGH SCHOOL: It is a lot more personal. There is a much smaller student to staff ratio which is nice. At BA you also have a lot more responsibility which is important for college.
BEST THING ABOUT BA: The kids- especially the lacrosse team.
WORST THING ABOUT BA: No sleeping in.
ACTIVITIES AT BA: Lifting, Lacrosse, Intramurals
OUTSIDE OF BA: I participated in a lot of community service. I also love fishing, sports, movies, boating, and the beach.

Lacrosse Opens With A Win
The Bridgton Academy Wolverines lacrosse team opened up the season with a victory on the road. The team travelled to UMass this weekend and won 11-5. Coach Bamann was very happy with the game saying, “The team played great. It was a little sloppy in the beginning buts it’s our first game so that’s to be expected.”
The game started off with Bridgton dominating the play. For the first few minutes the ball never left BA’s offensive zone. Then UMass took control of the ball and scored on their first trip down the field. Bridgton didn’t give up and answered right back when Ian Farley (Camillus, NY) scored with an assist from Matt Stango (Jupiter, FL). In the next few minutes of play there were two more goals exchanged before Edward Suh (Colchester, CT) cut through the UMass defense and fed a pass to Stango who turned it into Bridgton’s 3rd goal of the game putting BA ahead 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
“The team played a very unselfish game,” said Coach Bamann. “We moved the ball well and there were a lot of assisted goals which is always nice to see.”
Farley led the scoring with four goals. Alec Westerhoff (LeGrange Park, IL) also lit up the scoreboard with three goals and two assists while Sean Williamson (Falmouth, MA) added a goal and an assist. The rest of the Wolverine goals were scored by Nate Nichols (Penn Yan, NY) and Storm Stockstill (Jupiter, FL) with assists from Spencer Matches (Sammamish, WA) , Jacob Luchovich (Stonington, CT), and Chris Barney (Cheshire, CT). BA out shot UMass 25-7 and had 37 ground balls while UMass only had 23. Bridgton also won 14 out of the 20 face-offs in the game.
With a win in the books the Wolverines look forward to their next contest. They will face Navy Prep at home on Saturday September 18th. Game time is set for 1:00 P.M.
