Wolverines End Fall With 2-1 Weekend
The Lacrosse Team traveled to Lake George, NY and the Golden Goal Complex to play in the Siena College Fall Showcase. In their final showcase of the Fall Bridgton collected two wins in three games.
In the first game of the day the Wolverines took on the Mohawk Indian Club Team. Bridgton came out flat and played a sloppy game. Coach Bamann said, "There was too much individual play, and we did not work well as a team." As a result Bridgton was handily defeated.
The second game of the day was a different story as BA came out focused against a competitive NED Elite, out of Western Massachusetts. Bridgton moved the ball much better and was able to control play most of the game. Goals were scored by Casey Helms (Sandwich, MA), Mark Wood (Camarillo, CA), Kam Bumpus (Needham, MA) and JP Coombe (Annapolis, MD). Ryan Cordero (Orlando, FL) collected his first goal of the Fall, and also picked up an assist. Defensively Joey Estes (Westbrook, ME) anchored the backfield and in net Will Janney (Richmond, VA) played very well. "We played very well, coming off of a loss we were focused and determined," commented Coach Bamann.
In the final game of the Fall, Bridgton played, "one of the best games this season," according to Bamann. Taking on Christian Brothers Academy, BA possessed the ball for the majority of the game, answering each CBA goal with two of their own, en route to an 11-5 victory. Once again Janney played very well in goal, also picking up an assist. Brent Brothers (Tewksbury, MA) did well on face offs winning a high percentage. "This was a great game to end the Fall on," remarked Bamann, "it showed the progress we have made throughout the season."
Coach Bamann said, "We had some long road trips, and a lot of practices, but we handled it well and I want to congratulate the guys on a successful Fall season."
Bridgton Lacrosse concludes its initial Fall season with a record of 10-7, and look to the Spring to pick up where they left off.

BA Posts 2-1 Weekend At UMass
Bridgton Lacrosse traveled to UMass Amherst for their annual Fall Recruiting Showcase. The Wolverines played three games against elite travel teams and prep schools.
Once again the Wolverines ran right off the bus onto the field, but did not show any signs of a long ride as they jumped out to an early lead against John Jay High School. Facing a number of D-I recruits the Wolverines did not back down, "We played great, moved the ball very well and communicated better than we have in any game," said Coach Bamann. Bridgton out shot John Jay by a large margin and got a solid effort out of Sean Igoe (Oceanside, NY) in goal, taking the first game of the day 13-6.
In the second game BA looked to avenge a loss from last weekend as they took on the Fighting Clams. Bridgton's offense according to Bamann, "Slowed the tempo too much to get back into a rythm." However, the Wolverines had plenty of scoring opportunities, and if not for the great play of the Clams goalie the score would have been much more lopsided, as Bridgton pulled out a 9-8 victory.
Showing signs of having played two full games in the sun earlier in the day, Bridgton played a sloppy third game of the day, dropping a 12-7 decision to New England Select. "There were promising spurts throughout the game, but we looked unfocused at times," commented Bamann.
Commenting on the weekend Coach Bamann said, "This was another good weekend for us, there were over 75 college coaches in attendance, allowing our guys to get exposure, and we played very well against some good competition."
Posting a 2-1 record over the weekend Bridgton's record now stands at 8-6 for the fall. With one showcase remaining at the Golden Goal Sports Complex hosted by Siena College, next weekend.

BA Finds Success at Crimson Classic
The lacrosse team enjoyed success this past weekend at the Crimson Classic, hosted by Harvard University. Competing in a recruiting showcase featuring some of the top prep and elite teams in the region, the Wolverines went 3-1 on the day.
Due to traffic problems the Wolverines were forced to get right into their first game, but there would be no let down from limited warm up time. Bridgton faced Bishop Timon out of Buffalo, NY and the Wolverines were able to come away with a 7-2 win. Speaking of the game head coach Garrett Bamann said, "It was difficult to come right off the bus and play, but we handled it very well and showed no signs of let down from the limited pregame time."
Bridgton's second game of the day matched them up with the defending Connecticut Class A Champions Fairfield Prep. BA played well as they jumped out to an early lead and continued to pressure the defense, winning 10-4. "This was a big win for us, Fairfield is a very good team, and we came out and showed that we can play at a high level," said Bamann.
Entering the third game of the showcase, which was composed of 30 minute running halves, the Wolverines were 2-0. They squared off against the Long Island Sting, an elite travel team, out of Long Island, NY. The Sting would jump on top of the Wolverines and take a one goal advantage into the half. Bridgton came out firing in the second half as they quickly erased the deficit, and continued to put in goals. BA ran away with an 11-6 victory.
In the fourth game of the day Bridgton took on one of the best teams in the showcase, the Fighting Clams, which is made up of players from all over New England. With multiple division I recruits on the team, the Clams were a talented group, gaining an early lead on the Black and Gray. The Clams would hold that advantage through out, BA put together a run in the final minutes closing the gap to two goals, but that is where it would stay. Falling 7-5, the Wolverines finished the day with a 3-1 record.
"We played well all day long, when we got behind we kept our composure and kept pressure on both ends of the field. It was good exposure for our players as over 60 Division I and II coaches were in attendance," commented Bamann.
Bridgton will be competing next weekend in another showcase at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Fall Tournament. BA will have three games against Elite and prep teams. Game times are roughly scheduled for 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.
The following weekend Bridgton will travel to Fort Anne, NY to compete in the Siena College Lacrosse Tournament, held at the Golden Goal Sports Complex. For interested parents the team will be staying at the Hampton Inn, in Lake George, NY

Wolverines Snared by Wildcats
Bridgton Academy traveled to University of New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats on a rainy Wednesday night. The deeper UNH squad was able to control the pace of the game and pull out the win, 13-6.
Bridgton played a solid first half and was able to get shots off by moving the ball quickly. Trailing only 6-3 at the half, the depth and pace at which UNH played at caught up to the Wolverines. The offense was not able to beat the defenders and the goalie made a number of saves.
"The pace of the game got to us. UNH moved the ball around and kept the pressure on us, not letting up on either end. Our lack of communication and inability to finish caused problems for us," said Head Coach Garrett Bamann. Bamann added, "There was no lack of effort on our part."
Kam Bumpus (Needham, MA) scored twice for the Wolverines, while Casey Helms (Sandwich, MA), Kevin Looney (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Steve Knezick (Burlington, NJ) added one goal apiece. Knezick handled the face-off duties, winning 53%. Mark Wood (Camarillo, CA) rounded out the scoring with a goal and two assists.

BA Downs Dean 14-8
Wolverine Lacrosse swept the weekends games by posting a 14-8 over Dean College. The Wolverines have now won three consecutive games to even their record at 3-3.
Bridgton came out, "Flat, and we played a sloppy first half," according to Head Coach Garrett Bamann. Leading 6-4 at the half the Black and Gray turned up the intensity and outscored Dean 8-4 in the second half. "We decided to pick up the play from the first half and gave a great effort in the second half."
Coach Bamann was pleased with the weekends results as the goal was to win both games. Leading the way for Bridgton was Mark Wood (Camarilla, CA) with a hat trick, while Casey Helms (Sandwich, MA), JP Coombe (Annapolis, MD), and Kam Bumpus (Needham, MA) each collected a pair of goals. In goal Sean Igoe (Oceanside, NY) turned away eight shots to earn the win.
Coach Bamann and Bridgton Academy Lacrosse would like to send out a special thank you, to Mr. and Mrs. Hay for putting on a great tailgate after the game.
