The lacrosse team had a very busy weekend as they left for Albany, NY on Thursday night. The next morning they continued their journey to Syracuse, NY where they faced a very talented Hill Academy. After hours of driving the guys came out strong. Sean Fosse (New York, NY) wasted no time getting the team on the scoreboard. Matt Stango (Jupiter, FL) capitalized on a pass from Nate Nichols (Penn Yan, NY) to go ahead 2-0. The Hill Academy attempted a comeback, tying things up 2-2. Alec Westerhoff (La Grange Park, IL) made sure that didn’t happen and scored BA’s third goal of the night with Nichols assisting the goal. Nichols then scored an unassisted goal, then assisted Westerhoff’s second goal of the night bringing the score 5-2. Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, MA) scored the last goal of the half.
Going into the second half with a lead of 6-2, BA’s play got a little sloppy. The Hill Academy came out strong with three goals right away bringing the score to a close 6-5. Ian Farley (Camillus, NY) capitalized on a pass from Nichols giving the Wolverines a small lead. The Hill Academy tallied one more goal, but could never pull ahead of the Wolverines. Stango finished a pass from Storm Stockstill (Jupiter, FL) and Cody Leaf (Waquoit, MA) took the ball the length of the field to score the last goal of the night.
Coach Bamann was very pleased with the way his team came together. “I thought it was the best we played all year,” said Bamann. He then added, “The Hill Academy was a very talented team and we proved ourselves against them. We took the lead and kept it the whole game. While they made a late comeback, they never went ahead. I am very proud of our guys and they played some great lacrosse. It was also great to see them perform in front of about 35 college coaches from Division I, II, and III schools.”
