Preseason is Underway!

The 2011-2012 Wolverine Lacrosse team has arrived on campus and are already working hard to prepare for the up coming season. The guys also took some time to help clean up the beach after Hurricane Irene came by a few days ago. Here are a few shots from preseason so far!

Team Awards 2010-2011 lacrosse season

The first award is the Wolverine Offense Award. This young man was a pleasure to coach and he is very humble. This award goes to the offensive player who exhibits outstanding leadership on and off the field. He is not necessarily the most vocal person but we could always count on him to make something happen. I am proud to give this award to Matt Stango- (Stevenson University)

The Second award is the Wolverine Defense Award. This young man was probably without question one of the hardest workers on and off the field. He has a quiet demeanor yet intense when in the game. He was the catalyst of our defense and he led with action not words. I am proud to give the wolverine defense award to Cody Leaf (University of Vermont)

The third award is the MVP award. This player kept us in games. He was also the only player to have no competition. If he went down there would be nobody left. Yes this is frustrating at times but in the big games he never let us down and so it gives me great pleasure to give this award to Colin Nesdale. (Binghamton University)

The fourth award is the Lunch Pail award. This award goes to a player who has no quit in his vocabulary. When faced with adversity he never backed down. He is relentless everyday and driven to succeed in everyday life and athletics at the academy. It gives me great pleasure to give this award to Jeff Christiano. (Nazareth College)

The last award goes to a person who without a doubt helps in way we couldn’t have imagined. This person always had a great attitude no matter what was asked of him and he always did it with a smile. The everyday operations would not go on without the help of this person. It is my pleasure to give the Wolverine Strength Award to Alec Westerhoff. (LeMoyne College)

Bridgton Academy Lacrosse saves an award that is giving on graduation weekend The John Powers memorial lacrosse improvement award. This award goes to the player who has an unquenchable thirst to get better and his character is unwavering. The Award goes to Conor king. (Southern New Hampshire University)

I am extremely proud of these young men as they proved themselves in the classroom and on the field. They came to Bridgton Academy with certain goals in mind and they reach high and beyond their expectations. This year being my first recruiting class, was very special to me. I had an unbelievable team this year with 9 player’s achieve high honors (3.5) and above. I also had another 14 players achieve honor role of (3.0) and above.

On the lacrosse field we achieve a lot of success as well. We Beat UNH and Bowdoin College for the first time in 6 years. We also beat a very talented Hill Academy team in the fall. This year was also highlighted by first year wins against Stonehill College, Boston University, UMaine Orono, Phillips Andover and New Hampton.

I would also like to thank my assistant coaches Tucker Prudden and Brock Armour for all of the countless hours they put in. Good luck to Brock Armour in the future and he will be a great asset no matter where he lands. There work was invaluable and we as a team and program would not have had the success without their help. Thanks again to Grady Vigneau, Joe Sawicki, Chris Webb and Jenn Bamann, as well as the Bridgton Academy Community for continued support. I also would like to thank all of the Wolverine Lacrosse alumni for the success over the year as we would be nowhere as a program without you.

This year, the Wolverine Lacrosse team is proud to announce that each player has committed to play in College next year. Of the commits, there are nine playing Division I, eight playing Division II, nine playing Division III, and two playing club lacrosse. This is a big accomplishment for the team, and each individual should be very proud. Wolverines Drop First Game

The Wolverines faced Navy Prep in the first game of the Newport Cup this weekend. The team worked hard, but ultimately could not keep up losing their first game 17-8. The team will play again on Sunday at 11:00am against Army Prep.

Community Outreach Video

Over the course of this semester some Wolverines have been running youth lacrosse clinics at the local middle school to raise interest in the sport. They have done a great job and the kids they work with love it! Here is a video of some of their hard work.

Newport Cup Information

Here is some very important information regarding the Newport Cup:

First Game

Saturday, May 7th at 2:30 pm Against Navy Prep

Second Game

If we win Saturday we play at 2:30 0n Sunday May 8th against the winner of Hill Academy/Army Prep

If we lose on Saturday we play on Sunday May 8th at 11:00 am against the loser of Hill Academy/Army Prep

The team will be staying the the Best Western Main Stay Inn on Saturday May 7th night. Here is the information for any fans who would like to book a room:
