Fall Recap on the Dawn of the Spring Season

The spring lacrosse season kicks off this weekend when the Wolverines head down to Weston, MA to participate in the Rivers School Jamboree.

With that in mind, let's take a look back at the fall season.

This is Bridgton Academy lacrosse 2010-2011 fall recap:

The Bridgton Academy Wolverines lacrosse team opened up the season on September 12, with a victory on the road. The team traveled to UMass Club and won 11-5. They then followed up a great first win with the toughest opponent that we would see all year long in Navy Prep on September 18.

The Wolverine lacrosse team put up a good fight against the Navy Prep team but lost 13-6, playing a solid game for the first three quarters. However, concentration was broken in the fourth and the level of play decreased and Navy Prep took advantage and scored 7 of their 13 goals.

The team added another win to their record when they beat Stonehill College 9-3 on September 26th. The game started slowly and it was close through the first half. However, the Wolverines found a spark and never looked back closing out the game with the win.

Up next the squad traveled to Providence, RI to face Navy Prep for a second time. In hopes of a victory, the team came out strong. There was even play, but with six minutes left in the first quarter Navy scored their first goal, and they struck again with 25 seconds left. The Wolverines tried to get back in the game but Navy prep matched our goals in the first half and kept scoring in the second half. They proved to have too much offensive firepower and the game ended with a 13-3 final score.

On October 9th BA hosted the Portland Lax Pros and held them to a one goal difference for the first three quarters of the game. While the team worked hard in the second half, the Lax Pros were able to slip four goals past the Wolverine’s goaltender to secure the 11-6 win.

The lacrosse team battled the wind and rain on October 15th, when they traveled to UNH Club to play a very impressive Wildcat’s club team. After an exciting back and forth game, the Wolverines came out on top with a close score of 9-8. “This was one of the best games all year long” said Coach Bamann.

October 24th saw the University of Maine’s Club make their way to North Bridgton. The Black and Grey put all they had on the field, which resulted in an 18-4 victory for the Wolverines.

The team was then back on the road as they traveled to Merrimack College to face Boston University’s Club team on October 29th. Coach Bamann only had good things to say after the game. “We started off really well moving the ball for some very unselfish play. As a team we were up and down field and made sure they weren’t in the game from the start. It was really great to see that eight of the fifteen goals we scored were assisted- it shows us working as a team,” said Bamann. The Wolverines finished the game with a 15-5 win.

The squad then took their longest road trip when they headed to Syracuse, NY where they faced a very talented Hill Academy on November 5th. The best game all year ended with the Wolverines winning 8-6. Coach Bamann was very pleased with the way his team came together, “I thought it was the best we played all year,” Bamann said.

He then added, “The Hill Academy was a very talented team and we proved ourselves against them. We took the lead and kept it the whole game. While they made a late comeback, they never went ahead. I am very proud of our guys and they played some great lacrosse. It was also great to see them perform in front of about 35 college coaches from Division I, II, and III schools.”
