The Bridgton Academy lacrosse team wrapped up its Spring slate with a home match-up against rival Navy Prep. After falling behind early the Wolverines played tight with NAPS, but there was too much ground to make up, dropping their final contest 12-6.
BA got off to a slow start as the Midshipmen came out firing and pulled to a 5-1 advantage after the first quarter. In the second quarter Bridgton played even with Navy, but could not gain any ground and went into halftime trailing 6-2.
In the second half the Wolverine offense started to click as they posted three quick goals, to get within 10-5. The second half saw BA post 20+ shots, however they NAPS goalie made numerous saves, as well as the Wolverines being off the mark with their shots. The fourth quarter was played even, for a final score of 12-6.
J.P. Coombe (Annapolis, MD) led the BA offense with three goals and one assist. Single goals were scored by Mark Wood (Camarillo, CA), Kevin Looney (Manhattan Beach, CA), and Kam Bumpus (Needham, MA). Colin Palma (Chappaqua, NY) had to helpers, Casey Helms (Sandwich, MA) tallied one and Bumpus collected one.
In goal for the Wolverines Sean Igoe (Oceanside, NY) turned away 10 shots.
Following the game Coach Bamann was pleased with the effort saying, "Our guys played hard and never gave up. We won the 3rd and 4th quarters, the 1st was just too much to over come."
Bridgton ends its Spring slate with a record of 3-4, and 13-11 for the year.
